Ally Oope! Guadeloupe!

October 8th
Weeeeeeell!
So my parents at the end of September decided they were going to go on a little get away...cause when you get old that's an acceptable thing to be doing.
So they went to St. Martin, the place my father is from.
For those of you that don't know anything about St. Martin it's a little island down in the Caribbean. The island is so small it's landing strip is literally right on the beach. It is possibly the most ridiculous and poorly thought out airport I have ever been to but as far as I know no one has ever been harmed during these landings.
Half of the island was colonized by France while the other side is Dutch. My father grew up on the Dutch side but the French side is sooo much nicer. It's like the Dutch side is where everyone lives and where the cruise ships go but the French side is where they have all the resorts and golf courses and Oprah's house.
But you know, them just going on a vacation to see family and what not wasn't enough. Oh no! They have to go on a vacation on a vacation! So off they fly to Guadeloupe!
Now frankly this is just not fair. I would very much like to go somewhere warm and sunny....though I think it was just hurricane season so it rained a fair deal while they were there.
But I just got my present from them in the mail from Guadeloupe. Now Guadeloupe, like St. Martin is also a french colony. Naturally the people there speak French. My father does not speak a word of french and when he tries he usually says something spanish. My mother on the other hand loves to walk around speaking french like she invented the language.
So when I received my package this morning I thought it would be something really cool, exotic, impossible to buy in Canada...
They sent me a hair straightener....
And not just any hair straightener!

One with Spanish instructions!
I do not speak Spanish!
Not that I need the instructions to work a very straightforward hair straightener. But if you're going to send gifts from Guadeloupe send them in french! I sat through French immersion for 12 years at least try to challenge my brain. Send an in french, Guadeloupe board game or something.
Oh well, I think the only way to correct this strange gift is to take me back to St. Martin for the Summer.
That way I can go over to the french side and eat lots of rich food, all sorts of exotic fruits and lay on their beaches...though the awkward thing about french beaches is that they're all accepting of nudity...and the men wear speedos...it's not a stereotype if I've seen it in person.
Yes I think that's the only fair repayment for this gift flub.
